Networking and knowledge sharing are of fundamental importance for effective external government auditing. In cooperation with the Finnish SAI, we thus hosted the 2023 Annual Fiscal Policy Audit Network Meeting in Berlin.
About 40 participants from 17 EU Member State SAIs and the European Court of Auditors discussed the importance of EU fiscal rules and the planned reform.

- Sustainability of public finances within the European Union
- Importance and benefits of the EU fiscal rules and the European Commission’s proposals for reform
- Fiscal measures to combat crises and to achieve climate targets
- Opportunities for collaboration of EU SAIs
“The EU fiscal rules are important and they are also effective. It is true that individual EU Member States frequently do not comply with the rules. But: Nobody would ever think of generally removing speed limits just because some people do not comply with the limits”, Professor Friedrich Heinemann emphasised in his keynote speech.
