As of today, Ansgar Heveling takes up the office of President of the Bundesrechnungshof. He was elected by the Bundestag and Bundesrat upon proposal of the Federal Government and appointed by the Federal President. He succeeds Kay Scheller, who stepped down from office in May 2026 as scheduled.
For the next twelve years, Ansgar Heveling will head our Presidential Division and participate in audits as a judicially independent member. As President, he bears overall responsibility for ensuring that the Bundesrechnungshof fulfils its duties in accordance with applicable rules and regulations. One of his most important tasks will be to ensure that our collegiate bodies are able to successfully continue their independent audit work.
